Echelon and Pretium teams brave the cold for 2024 St Albans Sleepout
Echelon’s Mathew Baxter and Sharon Hunt, and Pretium’s Millie Davis, participated in the 2024 St Albans Sleepout, in aid of Herts Young Homeless, on 8 November.
Over 200 people bedded down for the night in the grounds of Oaklands College, St Albans for the annual event, which was co-sponsored by Echelon and Mulalley.
It aims to shine a light on the issue of youth homelessness while raising vital funds for the charity which provides essential services for those facing homelessness across Hertfordshire.
The Echelon Group team raised £365 for HYH, and the experience was a powerful reminder of the daily struggles faced by those experiencing homelessness. The money raised from the sleepout will help the charity provide essential services to its users, such as mediation, education, and counselling.
“Sleeping out, although only for one night is an incredibly sobering reminder that, for many people, this is their only choice,” said Mathew Baxter, Echelon Group Chief Executive “Let’s hope the current Government delivers its promise to end homelessness”.
Sharon Hunt, Echelon’s Director of Partnerships and Procurement, added: “I am grateful that I only experience this once a year and can’t imagine what it must be like for this to be your normal. HYH does an amazing job facilitating this event and raising money to help ensure young people don’t face this as their future.”
Millie Davis, Business Development Manager at Pretium, expressed similar sentiments: “I was really nervous about sleeping outside, but everyone came together and supported one another. From building shelters to hearing heart warming stories about people’s experiences, it was a special evening that I look forward to joining again.”
