Brands Hatch Race Recap: Echelon Group Supports Sam Cox Racing Team on Race Day
Members of the Echelon Consultancy team were joined by colleagues from across the sector, including auction winners from the Echelon Conference and HYH gala Ball at Brands Hatch on Sunday 27 July, supporting the Sam Cox race team in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship, with one such winner being lucky enough to experience the race from the pits, giving them an unforgettable experience!
Echelon have been proud sponsors of the team since 2015 and although Sam is currently sidelined from racing due to injury (but still representing the team by taking on commentary duties), Tom Ward and in addition from this round, Tom Oliver have stepped in to carry the torch and continue representing the Sam Cox Race Team.
Unfortunately, despite achieving P6 in qualifying on Saturday, Tom Oliver was unable to compete in Sunday’s race due to complete engine failure at the start of the race on Saturday. A disappointing outcome for Tom O, but we’re confident he’ll be back for the next round at Thruxton to show us all what he can do!
Mathew Baxter and Sharon Hunt, who regularly attend the racing, were delighted to be able to introduce other members of the Echelon team, Mike Gammack, Jane Wood, Jack Sharman-Dodd, and all their guests to Sam, Tom, Tom and the wider race team. Everyone also got a closer look at the impressive Honda motorbikes that have powered a strong season so far, with Tom Ward entering the race currently at second position in the Championship standings.
The 14-lap race got underway with uncertain rain drifting closer to the track adding to the tension. Tom started from P2 and showed strong form in the early stages, leading the race for eight laps and maintaining impressive pace through the first sectors of the circuit.
In a close four-way battle to the finish, Tom was narrowly edged out in the final corner, crossing the line in third place behind race winner David Allingham and second-placed Ilya Mikhalchik. Despite the late overtake, a podium finish reflects Tom’s continued consistency and determination this season.
After the race, the whole team later joined Echelon in their box overlooking the start finish line to watch the start of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship Race 15.
Some of the team then retired to the bar, to watch England’s Lionesses bring home the trophy – a great weekend of sport overall.
